You could use the word "aborigine" to describe theindigenous people of the Amazon, since it has a similar meaning as "indigenous."Both refer to the original inhabitants of an area or country. But "Aborigine"usually refers specifically to the original inhabitants of Australia. Usingthe same word for other native peoples would be technically correct buta little confusing.
